Alabama Summer Computer Camps

The University of Alabama Department of Computer Science will host a series of Computer Science camps from June 6-24, 2011. Students will be taught multiple topics of Computer Science while learning to program a computer in several exciting contexts (robotics control and smartphone apps). The Computer Science camps are taught in a manner that encourages self-exploration across multiple projects.

Overview

• Camps are open to students from all parts of Alabama and the United States. We also welcome applications from international students.
• The camps are offered to rising sophomores through seniors (i.e., those currently in 9th-11th grades during Spring 2011).
• All camps are taught by UA faculty in our Computer Science labs.
• Both commuter and dorm-based options are available. Those students from outside of the commuting range to Tuscaloosa may reside in our dorms throughout the week.
  
• The camps begin at 9am and end at 4pm each day of the week. Students will be given an hour lunch break with planned social events for those staying in our dorms.
  
• Seating restricted to 25 students per week; please apply early.
• Limited number of seats reserved for teachers interested in the camps.

Important Dates

Students desiring to participate in the camps must first apply before April 22nd. Students will be notified by May 2nd regarding whether they are invited to attend, based on availability (we are expecting far more requests than we have seats). An invitation to the camps will include information about payment of tuition. If any camp receives registrations that are double the camp capacity, then the registration may be shut down before the April 22nd deadline (please register as soon as possible).

• Week 1 (June 6-10, 2011): Introduction to Programming with Java (SOLD OUT)
• Week 2 (June 13-17, 2011): Robotics Programming
• Week 3 (June 20-24, 2011): Smartphone Programming (Android)
